Description Bryan Webb 2011-10-21 22:05:22 UTC
Alternate Summary Line:
Saving Network Configuration->Run SuSEconfig->(YaST2)Error: No network running

Attempting to install RC1 under VirtualBox 4.1.4 (latest version), which is itself running on Windows 7 Professional.

While attempting to install openSuSE 12.1 RC1 Build 0379 64bit:
got to the Configuration->Network step on the left panel, and the right panel shows the 'Saving Network Configuration' screen.

On the last step, 'Run SuSEconfig', the system gave a popup:
Title: YaST2
Msg: Error
Dtl: No network running
Btn: OK

The prior screen located the network card OK, and had proposed its config as DHCP, which I accepted.

No choice at this point about the popup, but to hit OK. OK.

(I configure my system to Run Level 3)

Completed the installation (skipping any network tests), which then auto boots to the ncurses/text mode login prompt. Login as root. ifconfig says only lo/127.0.0.1 is present.

shutdown -r now

system again boots to ncurses/text login prompt. Login as root. This time, ifconfig shows both
  lo-127.0.0.1
and
  eth0-10.0.2.15/64-fe80::a00:27ff:fe1f:f30f/64

Notes: (1) Repeated failure, can be duplicated at will
       (2) This problem does not exist for openSuSE 11.4

Steps to duplicate:
1) <pedantic>Install (latest) VirtualBox on Windows 7 professional</pedantic>
2) Install opensuse 12.1 RC1 DVD 64bit ISO on Oracle's VirtualBox with operational network card
3) verify unexpected popup while "Saving Network Configuration" screen is displayed.

Just tested on RC2 x64, the same problem still persists. I hope this can be fixed before release?
Comment 3 Josef Reidinger 2016-10-20 11:58:32 UTC
SuSE config was dropped, so it should no longer failed there. If it still failing for 42.2 please reopen with yast logs.
Thanks
