Description Juergen Weigert 2012-06-14 18:33:50 UTC
top shows me many instances of 'tracker-extract (defunct)' popping up a few minutes after booting the system.

dmesg has this:
[ 1120.056771] tracker-extract[23963]: segfault at 744cf65 ip ae6e1aac sp bf94a91c error 4 in libpoppler.so.25.0.0[ae5cd000+1eb000]

What is needed to extract a more meaningful traceback?

Juergen,

Thanks for your report. Based on the fact that it crashes on libpoppler, there is a high chance that it tries to index a pdf file.

There should be a ~/.local/share/tracker/tracker-extract.log that might have information on which file was last being indexed, which could help to track it down further.

Could you attach the identified PDF? (if it's non-confidential/private of course)

Juergen,

Can you please verify if this still happens since we upgraded to tracker 0.14.2 in Factory / 12.2 (which addresses a bunch of crashers)
Comment 3 Dominique Leuenberger 2012-09-05 21:20:28 UTC
This bug was essentially in needinfo since June 25...
The upgrade to tracker 0.14.2 for sure did kill a good bunch of tarcker crashers.
