Glenn,

First, let's make if the driver is ok? Could you attach your 'dmesg' here? Thanks!

Hi,

jme 0000:03:00.5: eth0: Link is up at ANed: 100 Mbps, Full-Duplex, MDI

eth0 looks good.

Do you use the NetworkManager? if so, please provide '/var/log/NetworkManager'.
If use the ifup, please provide '/var/log/messages' . Thanks!
Comment 6 Bin Li 2012-06-29 03:47:09 UTC
From your original comment, looks like the eth0 can't get ip address.

Hi

I have this same issue with setup:
MSI GT70 laptop and atheros gigabit ethernet card.

02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. Device [1969:e091] (rev 13)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device [1462:10be]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 46
        Memory at f7300000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256K]
        I/O ports at d000 [size=128]
        Capabilities: <access denied>
        Kernel driver in use: alx

And I had to compile alx module new like follows:

Yast. Software management. Install next 5 packages:

patch
gcc
make
linux-glibc-devel
kernel-devel

cd /home/user
mkdir src
cd /home/user/src

download tarball for new drivers

linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2012-05-10-p.tar.bz2

download patch file from Ubuntuforum. (you must register)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2008332
download compat-batch.txt

Try to run it first. If you don't get error message, proceed.
patch --dry-run -p2 < compat-patch.txt

patch -p2 < compat-patch.txt

make
sudo make install

sudo modprobe alx

/sbin/ifconfig -a

openSUSE 12.2 is out of maintenance so closing as WONTFIX for 12.2 This bug seems serious enough that I doubt it is reproducible in newer versions of openSUSE. If I'm wrong about that, do reopen the bug and change the product.
