After installing some updates to a Beta 2 system from the openSUSE 12.2 testing repository at widehat, the plymouth screen no longer shows up during the shut down sequence. It still does correctly show up at boot-up, but I get only text on a black screen during shut-down. This used to work fine earlier, both at startup and at shutdown. I should not probably guess, but this problem started roughly from the time the following change happened (I am almost sure everything worked fine with plymouth version 0.8.5.1):-

Should be fixed in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fcrozat:/branches:/Base:/System/openSUSE_Factory/

please test

Thanks Frederic, this fixes it indeed; now I get nice plymouth based graphics during shutdown.

Unfortunately it introduces two problems as well:
1. The boot up sequence during plymouth --> GDM transition is no longer seemless as it was prior to installing these packages from your test repo (i am using a radeon chipset btw). Now plymouth -> gdm transition is as follows:
plymouth -> Vt1 -> black screen for 3 seconds with mouse pointer loading -> GDM. Previously it used to be very pretty: plymouth -> retain background and load mouse pointer -> GDM; no black screen at all.

2. For whatever reason, hibernation no longer works. I updated to the suspend packages in your test repo too, but to no avail.

could you boot with systemd.log_level=debug systemd.log_target=kmsg

and attach dmesg output after booting and after gdm has started properly( so I can see the exact ordering) ?

pushed a new build in my branch with high chances to fix the gdm transition bug. please test :)
