Trying to install kernel-desktop-3.5.0-2.1 from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/

YaST or zypper returns:
nothing provides mkinitrd >= 2.7.1 needed by kernel-desktop-3.5.0-2.1.x86_64 

mkinitrd >= 2.7.1 does not exist in the repositories for openSuSE 11.4, 12.1, 12.2rc2, or Factory.

1. zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard  Kernel:-stable-standard
2. zypper in kernel-desktop-3.5.0-2.1.x86_64

Actual Results:  
Problem: nothing provides mkinitrd >= 2.7.1 needed by kernel-desktop-3.5.0-2.1.x86_64

Expected Results:  
installation of kernel-desktop-3.5.0-2.1

This seems to be a duplicate of Bug 774370

However the suggested resolution of using Tumbleweed seems inappropriate.  I think it would be better to either restore the 3.5.0-1 kernels to the repository, or include an appropriate mkinitrd if one does not exist in the maintained (updated) openSuSE verions.
