Description Olaf Hering 2012-08-06 11:32:03 UTC
while testing for bug bnc#774386 I found that remote administration fails to start. 'vncviewer IP:1' starts to draw the green background, I see some small black rectangle in the upper part of the window, then the connection is dropped.
I dont know if thats a GNOME bug because I have to tested with KDE yet.

In the logs there is lots of debug enabled per default, but due to a ratelimit in rsyslogd that output is most likely incomplete.

...
Aug 6 13:21:09 linux-1x68 gnome-session[15806]: DEBUG(+): GsmXSMPClient: Program = 'metacity'
Aug 6 13:21:09 linux-1x68 gnome-session[15806]: DEBUG(+): GsmXSMPClient: UserID = 'gdm'
Aug 6 13:21:09 linux-1x68 rsyslogd-2177: imuxsock begins to drop messages from pid 15806 due to rate-limiting
...

Independent from the failed startup this debug output handling should be improved in some way. either disabled or the ratelimit disabled.

The debug output would be a GNOME issue - have you opened an upstream bug for that? In any case, openSUSE 12.2 is out of maintenance, so closing as WONTFIX for 12.2. If you can still reproduce in a recent version of openSUSE, go ahead and open a new bug.
