log file from Xorg

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0

During installation, X works fine. Even after the initial boot to finalise the installation X worked. After that I rebooted the system, and X was white with a block cursor. Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc still works, and the mouse cursor works.
I am using KDE, but I think it is more an X issue, because if I start X using Xorg from the command line, it also doesn't start properly. It is not white, but black, and when I flip between virtual sessions and back to X, it is poluted with some of the boot-up text.

I am using OpenSuSE 12.2 i586 on x86_64 capable hardware

I will attach my Xorg log file

This is the details lspci gives for my graphics card (using 12.1):

During installation still fbdev driver is active, whereas afterwards the native nouveau driver.

Workaround: Use "nomodeset" boot option or switch to NVIDIA's proprietary driver.
Comment 3 johan botha 2012-08-07 12:35:47 UTC
The nomodeset option works, but the resolution for the desktop is 640x480 without the option to change it.
NVIDIA drivers does work at full resolution.

Ok. Then please figure out which modes your VBIOS does not support via

  hwinfo --framebuffer

and use the appropriate vga=0xXXX parameter for booting. Thanks.
Comment 5 Stefan Dirsch 2014-05-22 12:38:22 UTC
openSUSE 12.2 is no longer supported. Hence the issue won't be fixed for this product. In case the issue still is reproducable with a supported product (openSUSE 12.3/13.1 at the moment) or with openSUSE:Factory, please feel free to reopen. Thanks.
