Description Forgotten User 10buyl7JnO 2012-09-10 08:27:13 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686) AppleWebKit/537.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/21.0.1180.89 Safari/537.1

I just tried to install opensuse 12.2 32 bit from usb thum drive. I went fine until first reboot. On reboot, it kept printing message can not enumerate usb device on port 4 on console and didn't finish the installation. I rebooted the system which then dropped me on single user mode. I had to reinstall from dvd.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write 32 bit opensuse 12.2 to usb thumbdrive using imagewriter.
2. Boot with usb thumbdrive and install opensuse 12.2.
3. Leave udb drive connected while it reboots first time.
Actual Results:
Installation fails on reboot due to usb error.

Expected Results:
Installation should finish same way as dvd.

Oops, I already installed from dvd. Now I have to redo it to get the logs. I'll try that on other partition when I get some time.

Similar problem with install from USB. With a USB DVD reader, it starts and when installing the Linux on the DVD, it aborts with an error: Cannot find CD 1.
If I manually connect the DVD reader to the motherboard, it loads the install system. I don't have space in the case for the DVD reader.

Which component reports the error? Does kernel get loaded and started, or is the error coming from botloader?
Comment 5 Forgotten User 10buyl7JnO 2012-11-01 08:52:21 UTC
Not sure which component reported the error or was it from kernel or boot loader but the error keeps repeating and no further progress is there.
Comment 6 Jiri Srain 2012-11-01 09:57:57 UTC
If it is reproducible, you definitely can find out from the screen if kernel/initrd got loaded, where the boot progressed. As last resort of providing this information, you can attach a screenshot.

Without knowing where the error comes from, we can hardly fix it.

After this issue, I burned dvd and installed 12.2 and started using it. Now I can't install again on same system and don't have spare system to try. If there is a way to check in virtualbox, I can give it a try but not sure if usb will be attached same way in it.

I googled a bit and it led me to

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=635573

This looks like a kernel error...
Comment 9 Forgotten User 10buyl7JnO 2012-11-01 10:30:50 UTC
But is it related to post installation or normal usage also as I also see such errors now and I filed bug #785480 for that but it doesn't block and I get usable desktop. However current bug prevented finishing last step of installation and made system unusable. If both are same, then I should mark that one as dup of this?

Yeah, they look like they'd be the same.
