I duped from 12.1 to 12.2. Suspend to disk worked with 12.1. With 12.2 the display is turned off and the hard disk accessed every second forever. I ran pm-hibernate and attache the logs.

Setting splash=n in /etc/suspend.conf makes the hibernation work.

Reproducible: Always

Comment 5 Klaus Wölfel 2012-10-15 11:27:25 UTC
I can confirm this bug on my Toshiba Z930: Without splash=n the display gets black and harddisk is accessed until I force shutdown the computer. With splash=1 in /etc/suspend.conf, hibernate works as exepected.
Comment 6 James Ogley 2012-11-06 09:00:50 UTC
I can confirm this - also that it's only when upgrading - I have one machine with a fresh install where hibernation works (albeit I encounter https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=715967#c40 ) and one which I upgraded from 12.1 (dup) where I see this.
Comment 7 James Ogley 2012-11-06 11:50:42 UTC
Ignore comment 6 - I just saw it on the machine that has the fresh install.
Comment 8 Matwey Kornilov 2013-01-19 09:16:44 UTC
The same is for me, I have Intel 945 GPU.
Comment 9 Peter B 2013-03-18 17:50:29 UTC
In my case (HP mini 5102), hibernation works, but it is too slow and the screen is black while the image is written to disk.

I have the same problem.

After upgrading from 12.2 to 12.3, the problem occurred, if you run the hibernation, but still gives the dark and white screen.

In /var/log/pm-suspend.log shows no errors.
Comment 11 Vojtech Dziewiecki 2013-06-25 06:06:35 UTC
Splash during hibernation is done be package "suspend", which I don't maintain,
reassigning.

Also dupe of bnc#779048.
