install 12.2 on a machine with FreeBSD 9.0 installed in a GPT setup (/dev/sda1
for the EFI boot partition, /dev/sda2 for freebsd-swap, /dev/sda3 for
freebsd-ufs).

have the Partitioning screen use the free disk space, it will propose /dev/sda4
for swap, /dev/sda5 for /, dev/sda6 for /home). accept.

arrive at the final summary screen ("Installation Settings"). the "Booting"
section of the summary will have this in red:

Partition number > 3 is being used for booting with GPT partition table.

nevertheless, the installer allows the user to commit the installation (the [Install] button is not disabled, and after commiting, the system does not boot.
