Please provide YaST logs, see http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_YaST. I had the same problem, when I first installed openSUSE 12.3. I have a thinkstation s10, and disabled floppy device (although I do not have a physical floppy on my machine). The install of 12.3 and now 13.1 went through without an issue. Could be a duplicate of bug #846001 but without logs not clear. Same problem here in 13.1 final, unable to install. I have the same problem. But if you wait enough it works. Can it be related to the ghost floppy device (I haven't a physical floppy device)? Duplicate of that? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846001 As the previous poster reported. The installation worked on 13.1 final if you wait long enough during the searching for linux partitions stage. I was trying to install 13.1 final and it stalled at searching linux partitions again. I forgot about the installation for a while but then I later noticed that the installation continued. I think it took about 20 minutes to get past the searching partitions step. This bug can be considered resolved, assuming people don't mind waiting 20 minutes for this step. I have try disabling the floppy disk from the BIOS (I haven't a physical floppy device). Now "search linux partitions" take a few seconds. So apparently bug #773058 is not fixed. *** Bug 852929 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** For 2 weeks i installed 13.1 on two server with floppy disk. Same result hangs on 'search linux partitions' I disabled the floppy disk in the bios an all gone well. BR/Torsten I disabled the floppy drive in BIOS and tried again and the installation no longer hangs. So as others have mentioned, disabling the floppy drive is a fix for this bug. [PATCH] floppy: bail out in open() if drive is not responding
OK, this is a very crude patch that I'd appreciate if anyone with the affected system could test, to see if the long delays related to probing /dev/fd0 on systems where BIOS is lying about its presence, will go away.
Thanks.
Marking as duplicate of bug#773058 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 773058 *** I have real floppy hardware in the servers. So this bug is not the same #773058 BR/Torsten Ok, thanks for the information. Is this a regression from older openSUSE / kernel versions? If so, which ones are known to work on that particular hardware? I installed 13.1 final ! (In reply to comment #16) > I installed 13.1 final ! Just to clarify -- does that mean that with 13.1 final you don't encounter the problem even if the floppy is enabled in BIOS? With floppy hardware and enabled function in the bios a 13.1 final installation was not possible on my two server.
Installation freezes at 60%, search linux partition.
I have to disabled the floppy in the bios to install 13.1 final.
Install source was the NET install.iso copied to a USB Stick.

Ok, according to my analysis in bug#773058 comment#43, this is very likely the same bug. Closing as duplicate. If it later turns out to be a different issue, please reopen. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 773058 *** If I can add exactly time for linux partition searching: for 13.1 it is 15 minutes. I measured this searching partition times for some previous versions (this "too long waiting" started from 12.1) and got this 15 minutes value. I wirte this for those who think that installation can not be finished. I use 13.1 on PC computer 2x2.2GHz |
