Example from Yast network settings module - only help (ayuda) is being translated

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0

I am part of the Spanish translation Team for openSUSE. But the Spanish translations for some modules of yaST are missing. The general yaST page is Ok, but when you enter into the modules, the English version is loaded. This happens in the following modules:
1.- Additional products (Interface and description)
2.- Media Check (Interface and description)
3.- Online Update (Interface in Spanish, but no Spanish translation for packages being updated)
4.- Software Manager (Interface in Spanish, but no Spanish translations for some packages)
5.- Software Repositories (Interface and descriptions)...
...
Well, I could go on, but except for Online Update and Software Manager, the rest of the modules are still in English.

This is happening both in yaST for KDE (x86-64), and in my small laptop where I've also installed openSUSE 13.1 - this time with xfce and i586.

I'm not a developer, so, in case you need more detailed information, you must tell me what you want me to do.

Thank you for your attention.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open yaST
2. Open a module.
3. It is not translated.
Actual Results:
Nothing special. It happens always.

Expected Results:
Load Spanish translations of each module.

I think this is a yast issue.

I also think so. Is there anything I can do to help solve the problem?

The following might be either a partial workaround or a useful symptom for the developer.

The first time I notice this bug was on my laptop (Pentium Celeron), where I've installed openSUSE 13.1 i586. I played around with YaST module - etc/sysconfig Editor and changed the following string:
Under system - environment - language ->
I changed ROOT_USES_LANG from ctype to "yes", making myself sure, previously, that RC_LANG was set to "es_ES.UTF-8"
I didn't see any changes after saving... and I turned off the laptop until today. When I've returned to it, I've found everything is translated but for only two modules I've seen: Software management - everything there is in English, and Online Update.
I've checked most of the rest and the interface is translated.

But this is weird ... They are just the modules where the interface was in Spanish and now they have changed to English!!!!

I hope this info helps you.

I discussed with a Spanish translator on G+ before.

I think this maybe the same situation as

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=801311

Which now has some fixes received.

Can you have a try too?

Hi Margarite:

It was me the translator you talked to in G+. I've reviewed the post you've mentioned above but don't know exactly what I am supposed to do. I am no developer, so you will have to be a little more specific.

Thank you in advance!!

@jzhang: You should have assigned this to one of the yast module mainatiners. AFAIK Jiri maintains the onlineupdate, so I'm forwarding it.

As far as package translations are concerned, it appears to me that the Spanisch translation file (suse/setup/descr/packages.es.gz) on 13.1 actually contains English text. But I don't know who's responsible for this. In doubt ask Coolo or the build team.

Karl, could you take a closer look?

I think coolo maintains the packages files. coolo, this please is the problem:

Comment 10 Stephan Kulow 2014-01-07 14:58:32 UTC
it's unfortunate that the english texts are taken for untranslated strings, so it appears pretty much english, but there are indeed spanish strings too:

=Sum: Archivos y bibliotecas include necesarios para desarrollo
=Sum: Herramientas de cliente Samba
=Sum: Entorno de ejecución de Netscape Portable
+Des:
Herramienta para depurar sus programas C (depurador malloc).

So I need this a bit more specific.

Since I reported the bug, I would like to help you, but I don't know exactly what you need me to do nor how I can be of help. Could you tell me what do you want me to check?

Besides, and this is quite estrange, right now I am on my OpenSUSE 13.1 XFCE (i586), and YaST and its modules are perfectly in Spanish. But in my openSUSE 13.1, KDE 64 bits, almost everything is in English. I will check later the differences between both, but I did set up in my XFCE openSUSE RC_LANG = es_ES.UTF-8, and ROOT_USES_LANG = yes; using YaST's etc/sysconfig module.

Looking forward to helping you.

José

#6-#10 talk about package descriptions but your #1 talks about a yast module. So let's try to check one problem after the other.

So what is that you're looking at? Start a yast module under KDE?
Comment 13 Stephan Kulow 2014-09-17 14:20:33 UTC
sounds like it's no longer of interest
