Description Dennis Olsson 2014-01-26 15:45:58 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0

When trying to shutdown the system through the KDM "menu->shutdown" menu, KDM asks for root password authorization.
But, it is *not* possible to use the keyboard to do enter *anything* -- the keyboard is simply being ignored!
The only possibilities are to use the mouse to click on "OK", which (naturally) results in "Authorization failed", or "Cancel", which brings you back to the login screen, where the keyboard functions normal.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install openSUSE 12.3.
2. Update system with newest updates.
3. Add KDE 4.12 repositories (see http://en.opensuse.org/KDE_repositories).
4. Update to KDE 4.12.
5. Remove "/usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc" (this just to ensure that we are using a common default setup).
6. Run: systemctl restart xdm.service
7. Try to shutdown or reboot system using:
Menu -> Shutdown (or Alt-S) -> Turn off (or: Restart Computer)
8. In pop-up window:
Turn Off Computer: (or: Restart Computer)
      Root authorisation required:
      Password: <cursor>
Notice that you *not* able to enter the required password -- Keyboard is dead!
9. With mouse click on:
     "OK" -> Authorisation failed
"Cancel" -> Return to login screen, where keyboard works again!
Actual Results:
No able to enter root password in authorization pop-up window, when asked for it.

Expected Results:
Able to enter root password in authorization pop-up window, when asked for it, and thus being able to either restart or shutdown the system.

Issue similar to reported issue in bug 819066 - Cannot enter "kwallet" nor "ssh" key during login with "ssh-add" turned on in "/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc".

Problem still exists after having upgraded to KDE 4.13.0(*):

kdm-4.11.9-5.1.x86_64

(*) Using these KDE repositories for the upgrading to 4.13.0:
  http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Current/openSUSE_12.3/

Taking into account how long this bug has been open, I am wondering, are any
one from the KDE Team looking at this bug at all -- Or, does it not interest you
that the functionality of a KDE application suddenly has changed into being
unusable?

Can you tell me why you are removing the global config file for KDM (/usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc) ? This is the main default configuration and this SHOULD NOT be removed.

So far you are the only person with this issue, so I assume that it is something in your configuration. You are removing KDM's configuration to have a common default, but did you left /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc with the defaults ?? (e.g. NOT activating the ssh-add stuff)

If you changed this file and you are using the above with the ssh-add stuff active in the xinitrc ? If so, then please have a look at my answer in your other bug and disable this again in the xinitrc.

Try then again if you can normally shutdown.

Config file kdmrc

This file is on its place. I have sent a mail message to Raymond Wooninck.

Re comment #5:

I have suggested to remove the config file for KDM to order to have the same setup at me and by any one how is trying to reconstruct the bug -- And, because KDM works consistently bad with as well as without the file.

Of course, I have not changed "/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc"!

In fact, the "xinitrc" file is absolutely and completely of no interest to the problem reported here.
This file is not used at all, when KDM is displaying its login.

The "xinitrc" file only being used *after* the user has logged on to the system (as is the case for the problem reported in bug 819066).
The only similarity between the two reported problems is that you cannot use the keyboard in the pop-up windows in either case.

Re comment #6:
I am not sure what you are saying -- Does the supplied file work or not?

Anyway, I have tried to make use of the supplied "kdmrc" file -- Same error as reported!
And same error as without a "kdmrc" file and thus exclusively using KDM default settings.
No matter what, you are *not* able to use the keyboard to enter or activate anything in the pop-up window asking for authorization!

Ops, noticed that bug has been "resolved" -- Nope, it has not, thus reopening...

It has been resolved as a duplicate of bnc#772344.
And it is indeed a duplicate AFAICS, so resolving again.

FYI, I can confirm this here.

And those upstream bug reports seem related:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280422
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293617
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313021

So not an openSUSE specific problem I would say.
