Description Lars Müller 2014-11-07 22:31:19 UTC
The system in question has a NVIDIA Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GT] (rev a1) graphics card installed.

Triggering suspend to memory works but the resume fails and leads to blinking shift and scroll lock keyboard leds.

This is a fresh install, no upgrade.

With the same hardware suspend to memory worked with openSUSE 13.1.

I've also tested kernel-vanilla 3.18.rc3.next.20141106-1.1.g2af2e06 and it shows the same defect as openSUSE 13.2.

A netconsole and called dmesg -n 8 only returns the following few lines:

[ 1620.863018] PM: Syncing filesystems ... done.
[ 1621.168662] PM: Preparing system for mem sleep
[ 1621.284157] Freezing user space processes ... (elapsed 0.001 seconds) done.
[ 1621.285567] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... (elapsed 0.001 seconds) done.
[ 1621.286709] PM: Entering mem sleep
[ 1621.286752] Suspending console(s) (use no_console_suspend to debug)

Try to boot with no_console_suspend. This will show some more messages at S3, and you might see kernel panic messages.

In anyway, it's better to report this to upstream, e.g. bugzilla.freedesktop.org. Care to open a bug report there? Thanks.

Hi Lars,

I've been having a situation a bit similar to yourself.

See bug report here:

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=913105

Nouveau resume suspend to ram is broken for me too but the Nvidia binary blob works fine. What I did discover though was that I have two 2TB western digital caviar blacks that are causing a failure to resume from suspend and I wonder if our disk problems are related ? Any chance you could try your system without your WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB and see if resume from suspend to RAM is successful ?

Thanks

Cf the URL line where this issue now is tracked.

Please check back with Takashi or Hannes if you should close boo#913105 too.

Could you try the oS 13.2 test kernel in OBS home:tiwai:bnc934397 repo?
This worked for a similar bug report with WD HD.
Comment 6 Takashi Iwai 2015-06-15 11:51:51 UTC
The fix for WD disk has been merged to 13.2, stable and master branches (for bug 934397).
