A commonly posted question is about missing source after an install (updating or install).

Because the original install source is hardly used after install (all updates and installs will look to online sources for most recent packages. Also, no package exists only on the DVD and not online) and because the User ordinarily will remove the DVD immediately so that the hard disk is booted immediately (BIOS often places the CDROM before the HDD), avoiding unnecessarily booting first to the DVD.

In other words, unless a network is unavailable, the current configuration to leave the local DVD source enabled is useless.

Recommendation:
- Disable the local source (DVD) repo. I do not recommend removing.

At end of install, if it doesn't already exist, Installs commonly prompt the User to remove the DVD before rebooting (It does in text mode at least).
- Add to this message

Your system will now be configured to install new apps and update from the network. If you wish to install from the DVD, it should be re-enabled (software repositories) using YAST or zypper.

As you state, this is actually a feature request so it would be better discussed at https://features.opensuse.org Specially because it would mean changing the installer behavior. Please create a feature request there.
