There is a dependency problem in repo-oss with Tumbleweed:

$ sudo zypper install scilab
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
Resolving package dependencies...

Problem: nothing provides libmatio.so.2()(64bit) needed by libscilab5-5.5.2-6.1.x86_64
 Solution 1: do not install scilab-5.5.2-6.1.x86_64
 Solution 2: break libscilab5-5.5.2-6.1.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): c

$ cat /etc/issue

Yep, sorry. There is a fix pending but Factory is in the rebuilding stage and I guess this will get accepted into Factory shortly thereafter. In the meanwhile you might want to use the pkg from science repo.
