Description Ludwig Nussel 2016-08-23 12:35:31 UTC
The screen in GNOME no longer locks itself. It's turned on in the settings and I tried to manually set it to 1 minute but the screen never locks.
Comment 1 Bjørn Lie 2016-08-23 12:43:38 UTC
Are you using GDM?
Comment 2 Ludwig Nussel 2016-08-23 12:51:26 UTC
no, because of bug 994876 I had to switch to lightdm. I hope a working screensaver is not tied to the DM used :-)

I suspected as much - screenlocking in gnome now mandates gdm in use.

A fix for bug 994876 pushed here:
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/421281
Comment 5 Ludwig Nussel 2016-08-26 14:42:35 UTC
The referenced request does not fix the screen locking though. Screen locking works with GDM but not with lightdm. I see the following error message:

(gnome-settings-daemon:5508): media-keys-plugin-WARNING **: Couldn't lock screen: Cannot invoke method; proxy is for a well-known name without an owner and proxy was constructed with the G_DBUS_PROXY_FLAGS_DO_NOT_AUTO_START flag

looks like there is no interest to fix this. Stefan, could we add to the release notes that using GNOME with displaymanagers other than GDM doesn't work well?

In plasma5-desktop-5.5.5-20.1.x86_64 with my settings (attached) automatic screen locking doesn't work. Only manual screen locking works.
Comment 15 Stefan Knorr 2016-12-07 10:52:34 UTC
Resolving this as "upstream". This is release-noted already.
