Bugzilla – Bug 1186832
issue with the update repositories
Last modified: 2021-06-10 07:58:49 UTC
Leap 15.3 have the classic oss, non-oss update repository and the new backports and sle. The sle repository contains the content of sle-sp3 but also sle-sp0, sle-sp1 and sle-sp2 which in my opinion should not be present in the leap update repo. The content of sp0, sp1 and sp2 is surely superseeded by the content of the 15.3 release, therefore the rpm carried in the three sub directories (about 1500) will never be installed or used in a leap 15.3 installation. On the other hand, they made the content of the sle update repository bigger which slows the operation of zypper/yast and waste disk space. As i don't see any advantage but only disadvantages, I suggest to remove the content of sle-sp0, sle-sp1 and sle-sp2. Of course there may be some other requirement that I'm not be aware of and you need to have sle-sp0, sle-sp1 and sle-sp2 in leap 15.3 but if that's not the case consider removing such subdirectories. About the backports repository, while I can see some content in: http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/backports/ none of the opensuse mirrors I have checked seems to carry such content. I suppose it is missing on the server that the mirrors use to sync with.
no, the sle repos are layered ... not all rpms are in the sle-sp3 repos, some of it is in sle-sp2, some in sle-sp1 and some in sle-sp0, depending on what happened during SLE development. the second part i will defer to our mirror admins.
i brought this to the mirrors list.

I am still experiencing the issues

I just noticed that the following updates have landed in updates/leap/15.3/sle kernel 4.12.14-197.92 qemu 3.1.1.1-9.27.2 Since Leap 15.3 has kernel 5.3.18 and qemu 5.2.0 my question is: Do we really need to have such rpm to be in the leap update repository? > the second part i will defer to our mirror admins. No changes yet. backports still missing in the mirrors.

Some updates in the older codestreams will be duplicating. this is something we need to check, e.g. the kernel. currently i am resolving the more pressing issues.
