looks like bug #1195885 but Radeon HD 6870 (lspci):

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Barts XT [Radeon HD 6870]

system is booting from USB-disk
after reading initramfs screen gets blank, no more disk activity, only reset is possible

previous kernel 5.16.5-1-default is working well

nomodeset does not help

sorry, i had to change kernel version in summary.
Now it is the failing kernel version 5.16.8-1.1-default
