Returning to GUI via <ctrl><alt><F7> invalid video frequency on Intel integrated graphics

I have three systems using Intel integrated video controllers (i810 driver) that leave the GUI unusable if I do <CTRL><ALT><F1> and try to return via <CTRL><ALT><F7>. The monitor reports an invalid frequency. Doing an "init 3" then "init 5" from the console will restore the GUI login, but any running applications are lost. Hardware: (2) Dell Optiplex GX260 with Intel i845 chipset. (1) MSI motherboard with 865G chipset Common to all is the Intel i810 video driver. All systems are up to date with latest patches as of 7/28/06.
Could you attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Hmm, could you restest with "i810xorg71" driver. Just replace ' Driver "i810" ' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf with ' Driver "i810xorg71" '. Does this help?

Could you please test with latest X.Org and i810 driver again with SUSE 10.2 Alpha3?
I'm not sure if that is possible. I would have to take one of my Dell boxes down and load it on another hard drive since these are all being used as production systems now. My alpha/beta system is Nvidia. Is there an easy way to load just X.Org and driver without having to load Alpha3?
It would be possbile by using the X.Org 7 RPMs for SUSE 10.1 from our openSUSE buildservice, but I woudn't recommend this on a production system. If you still consider it, here is the URL for installation. http://software.opensuse.org/download/xorg7/Java_Sun-Java-1.5_SUSE_Linux_10.1/ I think you can add it as additional installation source to YaST and select all the packages from it.
Since we don't have a Intel 845 available for testing to reproduce this issue and you cannot test a newer driver for now I'm setting this one to LATER.
It appears that the problem is flagged in the x.org bugzilla database and appears across multiple distros. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5795. I'll track this as well as try some testing in the near future as one of my i845 systems will come available for testing soon. If I find anything of significance, I'll reopen the bug.

Well, since I couldn't find a patch in the X.Org bugreport to fix this issue also for older driver releases I decided to close this one as fixed for the next SUSE release.
