Description James Krehl 2006-10-10 20:20:15 UTC
After creating the third tab in a gnome-terminal window the window resizes itself larger. All subsequent new tabs also trigger window resizing (still larger). Additionally, after the third tab, all tab switching events trigger similar window resizing. Behavior is as expected when only 2 tabs exist.
Comment 1 JP Rosevear 2006-10-19 16:39:21 UTC
Unable to replicate in alpha5plus with gnome-terminal 2.16.1-5
Comment 2 James Krehl 2006-10-23 20:20:19 UTC
This still happens to me and with 2 tabs. You may try replicating with a different font. I'm using "DejaVu Sans Mono". When I switched to "Monospace" it seemed to stop happening.

-> Beta 1
Comment 5 Timo Hoenig 2006-10-30 19:13:01 UTC
JP, it is important, that one resizes the terminal at least once. After that the behavior is as described in the initial report.
Comment 6 JP Rosevear 2006-10-30 21:34:09 UTC
Yes, can replicate it now.

Could this be bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335200 ?
Comment 7 Timo Hoenig 2006-10-30 21:57:28 UTC
Gave the patch attached to the upstream bug a whirl but unfortunately it did not help.
Comment 8 JP Rosevear 2006-10-31 15:19:47 UTC
I tested CVS and can't replicate the problem, so the fix is in there somewhere.
Comment 9 JP Rosevear 2006-10-31 15:34:41 UTC
My mistake, its still there.

Comment 10 Timo Hoenig 2006-11-02 15:34:38 UTC
Mysteriously solved without changes for package gnome-terminal? I can not reproduce this with Beta 1 plus.
Comment 11 Timo Hoenig 2006-11-02 15:48:47 UTC
Actually, it still happens for newly created users with vanilla home directories.

-> Beta 1 plus
Comment 12 JP Rosevear 2006-11-02 18:00:10 UTC
Does it go away if you alter the default profile?
Comment 13 Timo Hoenig 2006-11-15 11:25:03 UTC
(In reply to comment #12)

Yes, but only on subsequent runs of gnome-terminal.

Without touching the default profile the bug remains.

Tested with Beta2 Plus.

This bug still exists, unfortunately have filed another bug report. It exists under x86_64 SuSE 10.2 RC1 as described in bug #223817
Comment 15 Forgotten User CRPsQFwJ3b 2007-01-18 02:45:19 UTC
This bug is still present in the final release and it is very annoying indeed.
Comment 16 Bryce Nesbitt 2007-02-09 19:33:11 UTC
Once you have 3 tabs open, just clicking on a tab makes the window get bigger. Another tab, bigger. Bigger bigger bigger until it gets bigger than the screen. Then it gets bigger than viewport.

See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338913

I nominate this one for a Yast patch.
It is still in 10.2 release.

Re-assigning for maintenace update.

I'd be great to push this out as an update.

Submitted the patch for STABLE and for GNOME:STABLE and GNOME:UNSTABLE Build Service projects. Test package for 10.2 placed to http://pack.suse.cz/sbrabec/bug211443/
Comment 21 Michał Kurowski 2007-02-26 13:16:59 UTC
I can confirm the 2.16.1-40.1 versions seems to fix it.
Thanks.
Comment 22 Stanislav Brabec 2007-02-26 16:43:35 UTC
Andreas. Can you provide a SWAMP?

This bug is really irritating: After each switching of tabs terminal gets larger and larger.
