Bugzilla – Bug 224816
Czech translations of bootloader menu
Last modified: 2008-08-01 12:13:28 UTC
When you see options what and how to boot, you can press F1 to get help. Pressing F1 in help window again shows the meta-help. This includes: "Using the Help System The boot loader online help is context sensitive. It gives information about the selected menu item or, if you are editing boot options, it tries to look up information about the option in which the cursor is positioned." In Czech, it is translated as "Nápověda zavaděče je citlivá na obsah. Poskytuje informace o zvolené nabídce nebo pokud editujete parametry jádra, snaží se poskytnout informace o dané volbě." "citlivá na obsah"???? What meaning has this formulation? I had to switch to English to find out what could it mean. Also the second sentence might be formulated better. These texts are in the files lcn/trunk/bootloader/html/help-boot.cs.html lcn/trunk/bootloader/html/help-install.cs.html Other issues (in help-install.cs.html, I didn't check help-boot.cs.html): "Very new hardware sometimes requires ACPI to control the interrupt handling." translated as "Velmi nový hardware může ACPI vyžadovat pro správu přerušení." (it is not clear what is the subject and what is object of the sentence; minor part is stranga couple "Velmi nový") typos: "jádro při stratu zamrzne" (startu) "Bezproblémový průběh testu nezaručuji" (nezaručuje) "Například pokud máte server na adrese a chcete provést instalaci přes NFS adresář /install," (missing address)
It looks like help is using old translations. No one from bugs is included in our current files. Karl, do you have time to check it?
BTW, where can I find "current files"? I haven't find these texts at http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/cs/ so I looked directly to https://svn.suse.de/svn/lcn/trunk/bootloader/html/
Unfortunately, there are technical problems with the po2xml tool and I was not able to detect this early enough. Thus we are re-using the old help files. Steffen's perfectly valid HTML are not XML like enough to make po2xml happy. Steffen already agreed to change the HTML code on account of po2xml for 10.3. I'm sorry for the trouble. Steffen, I assign the bug to you, in case you want to comment or use this report as a reminder.
Current files are in https://forgesvn1.novell.com/viewsvn/suse-i18n/trunk/lcn/cs/po/html-help-boot.cs.po and https://forgesvn1.novell.com/viewsvn/suse-i18n/trunk/lcn/cs/po/html-help-install.cs.po There are not in the PO stats because they have not a POT file.
Thanks for the links. Looks like all items got fixed in the new files meanwhile, except of the first part of report ("citlivá na obsah" as a translation of context sensitive).
currently it's technically not possible to update the html texts
Hey! The bug is here for half a year - why couldn't it be fixed?
background info: the html is not xml-like enough. that's why the tools that I'm using for converting the text to .po and back to .html fail.
So maybe we should provide the text in some other form? Shouldn't the bug be rather assigned to someone who either cares of making the html more xml-like or of making the tools aware of such input? I only know that LATER bug is in almost 100% cases a WONTFIX bug.
That's not correct. I'm moving the bug out of the way because I'm sure I'll not have time to look at this for 10.3 and even if I did, it would be too late for translations.
reevaluate bug for SLE11

Jiri is it still valid? If not please close this bug.
Interestingly, yes. there are still the old texts, not the ones linked by Klara. One and half of the year after the bug was reported! (Boot 11.1 from DVD, select Czech, pres F1 twice and see: "Nápověda zavaděče je citlivá na obsah.") Also other parts of that texts are strange, there are even some typos ("Jsou dav typy", comma at the end of sentence, and probably more). Karl, please specify again, where are correct sources of these data. I do not see how this should be related to bootloader, IMHO Steffen is responsible for the media content of this type. I'm attaching screenshot: even if it is in Czech, to make it clear what are the texts I am speaking about.

Steffen, this is no "too late for translations" issue. The texts exist, and the are translated, the problem is that they are not on medium.
