Description Martin Jürgens 2007-04-16 14:00:05 UTC
parse-metadata slows down the computer immense.

After starting the computer, which takes some time (800 MHz, 128 MB RAM), I am not yet able to use it. parse-metadata and other processes consume about 64 MB RAM for more than 5 minutes and a lot of cpu power. Thus, a Firefox start takes around 2-3 minutes and the system is very bulldogged.

I have never seen such an unperformant package management, and this should be definitly optimized in later versions of OpenSuSE.

I have the following repositories added: oss, non-oss, updates

Other distributions' desktops react promt. OpenSuSE does also after the package processess are done processing everything.

martin , please search bugzilla the next time,. there are countless of bugs reports about this 8and is getting quite annoying), there are so many that I dunno what bug number should I use to makr your issue as duplicated.. there are probably more than 100..

anyway you can remove zenworks as it is not needed for yast to work.

see http://opensuse-community.org/Package_Sources/10.2

sorry, will do next time.

but as SuSE ships with zenworks by default, it should work more or less, right? :P

Zenworks is a total train wreck. I hope OpenSUSE 10.3 drops it.
