Bugzilla – Bug 277824
Dependency checking in package selection during installation takes ages
Last modified: 2007-06-20 07:02:48 UTC
Ferrari 4000 (CPU: Turion 64 Mobile 2GHz, 1GB memory) I'm doing a SLP installation of 10.3 Alpha4 32 bit. In the software selection dialog dependency checking takes approx. 10 minutes! As autocheck is enabled by default this is completely unusable. I will attach y2logs as soon as this machine is installed.

Marking as NEEDINFO due to the Description.
I don't have logs (as I hit reset after 20 minutes on a 1Ghz machine), but seems to me, that the problem is somewhere around the GNOME patterns. When I choose KDE as my desktop, as usual, dependency checking seems to work fine. If I choose the Gnome desktop, or Gnome in addition to KDE, then I never had the nerves to wait until dependency check is finished...
Same for me. But it doesn't seem to be Gnome, you just have to add enough additional packages (kernel development, etc.). It gets dead slow. When selecting the Gnome desktop packages, I couldn't bear the waiting long enough. The laptop is back at the laptop group, but it could be tested again if this cannot be reproduced on other machines. I don't know if this is running into a livelock (so we won't get logs even after days), or the algorithm is just O(e^n).
I'm not able to reproduce it with Alpha4plus. Please attach your yast logs.
Please reopen the bug if you can provide the needed information, thanks.
