I just worked through this with duncan: zypper> search redland * Reading installed packages [100%] * Reading repository 'alpha7' cache * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache S | Repository | Type | Name | Version | Arch --+------------+---------+-------------+----------+----- i | | package | libredland0 | 1.0.6-19 | i586 zypper> sa ftp://dist.suse.de/full/full-i386 stable * Adding repository 'stable' Repository 'stable' successfully added: [x]* stable (ftp://dist.suse.de/full/full-i386) zypper> sl # | Enabled | Refresh | Type | Name | URI --+---------+---------+--------+------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | Yes | Yes | yast2 | alpha7 | ftp://10.10.0.100/install/SLP/openSUSE-10.3-Build605-DVD/i386/DVD1 1 | Yes | No | rpm-md | KDE:KDE4 | http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE%3a/KDE4/SUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | Yes | rpm-md | home:wstephenson | http://software.opensuse.org/download/home%3a/wstephenson/openSUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | No | rpm-md | home:dkukawka | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dkukawka/openSUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | Yes | yast2 | stable | ftp://dist.suse.de/full/full-i386 zypper> help zypper> mr -d alpha7 Repository alpha7 has been sucessfully modified. zypper> sl # | Enabled | Refresh | Type | Name | URI --+---------+---------+--------+------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | No | Yes | yast2 | alpha7 | ftp://10.10.0.100/install/SLP/openSUSE-10.3-Build605-DVD/i386/DVD1 1 | Yes | No | rpm-md | KDE:KDE4 | http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE%3a/KDE4/SUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | Yes | rpm-md | home:wstephenson | http://software.opensuse.org/download/home%3a/wstephenson/openSUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | No | rpm-md | home:dkukawka | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dkukawka/openSUSE_Factory 1 | Yes | Yes | yast2 | stable | ftp://dist.suse.de/full/full-i386 zypper> search redland * Reading repository 'alpha7' cache * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache S | Repository | Type | Name | Version | Arch --+------------+---------+-------------+----------+----- i | | package | libredland0 | 1.0.6-19 | i586 **************************************************** ** NB SEARCHES DISABLED 'alpha7' AND NOT NEW 'stable' **************************************************** zypper> rr stable Repository stable has been removed. zypper> sa ftp://dist.suse.de/factory/FACTORY/inst-source/ factory * Adding repository 'factory' Repository 'factory' successfully added: [x]* factory (ftp://dist.suse.de/factory/FACTORY/inst-source/) zypper> search redland * Reading repository 'alpha7' cache * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache S | Repository | Type | Name | Version | Arch --+------------+---------+-------------+----------+----- i | | package | libredland0 | 1.0.6-19 | i586 **************************************************** ** NB SEARCHES DISABLED 'alpha7' AND NOT NEW 'factory' **************************************************** zypper> ref Refreshing KDE:KDE4 * Building repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache Refreshing home:wstephenson * Building repository 'home:wstephenson' cache Refreshing home:dkukawka * Building repository 'home:dkukawka' cache Refreshing factory * Building repository 'factory' cache All repositories have been refreshed. zypper> search redland * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache * Reading repository 'factory' cache S | Repository | Type | Name | Version | Arch --+------------+---------+------------------+----------+----- | factory | package | libredland-devel | 1.0.6-24 | i586 i | | package | libredland0 | 1.0.6-19 | i586 v | factory | package | libredland0 | 1.0.6-24 | i586 | factory | package | redland | 1.0.6-24 | i586 **************************************************** ** NOW WE'RE IN BUSINESS :D :D :D - SEE BELOW **************************************************** zypper> install libredland-devel * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache * Reading repository 'factory' cache Reading RPM database... And I can't remove installed packages: Question 1: Why does zypper read the repositories to remove a package? Dependencies? Question 2: Why must zypper read the caches the second time, for the remove action. Aren't they in RAM already? zypper sh search libqca2 * Reading repository 'alpha7' cache * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache * Reading repository 'factory' cache S | Repository | Type | Name | Version | Arch --+------------+---------+---------------+--------------------+----- v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2 | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 v | KDE:KDE4 | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn680219-3.8 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 i | factory | package | libqca2-devel | 1.99.svn677962-11 | i586 zypper> remove libqca2 * Reading repository 'alpha7' cache * Reading repository 'KDE:KDE4' cache * Reading repository 'home:wstephenson' cache * Reading repository 'home:dkukawka' cache * Reading repository 'factory' cache Reading RPM database...
