Bugzilla – Bug 309020
Nvidia drivers don't work in beta3 but worked on beta2
Last modified: 2007-09-09 06:59:20 UTC
It looks like there have been major changes in kernel configuration from beta2 to beta3, as nvidia driver can no longer be installed, even with whole of kernel development installed. Nvidia install script complains about missing headers. Same driver installed flawlessly on 10.2 beta2. After some fiddling with on-line updates and various kernels, I did finally install the nvidia driver. But when I tried to configure the resolution, the sax2 crashes on testing it. So it can't be configured. Please don't say that you are not responsible for third party drivers. Linux desktop is completely crippled without proper 3D acceleration. We don't use Linux to run YAST, we use it to run applications. I have installeed 32 bit DVD version. My graphics card: Nvidia 8800GTS 320 MB My monitor: HP LP3065 (on the market for 8 months, not listed among HP monitors, I had to configure it as DELL 3007WFP to make it work) Resolution: 2560x1600 (also not listed as LCD, or VESA WQXGA). Apparently, DPMS does not report anything (not the size not the resolution). I can't provide any logs and stuff since I have no more time to spend on this, and have deleted the whole 10.3 beta3 and installed 10.3 beta2, which works. I can't play the "need more data" ping pong game. You must have some Nvidia card somewhere, just try it.
