Description Forgotten User ZhJd0F0L3x 2007-09-20 10:17:35 UTC
I installed a fresh 10.3RC1. I added a second user that authenticates with fingerprint. Since KDE did not work at all, i added gdm and gnome-screensaver.

I can log in to gdm with swiping the finger quite fine, gnomesu also works. Gnome-screensaver does not unlock, though.

Since this is a 10.3-feature => high severity.

Probably the corresponding patches I developed for SLE10SP1 have not been merged by the maintainers of the packages. IIRC it was required to patch g-s and /sbin/unix2_chkpwd of pam-modules.
Comment 3 JP Rosevear 2007-09-20 14:12:06 UTC
Timo, are you saying that you didn't submit to STABLE when you submitted to SP1?
Comment 4 Timo Hoenig 2007-09-20 14:29:39 UTC
That's possible.
Comment 5 JP Rosevear 2007-09-24 18:03:18 UTC
Timo, can you go ahead and submit to stable with the patches required?
Comment 6 Timo Hoenig 2007-09-25 09:50:46 UTC
I'll see whether they will still apply somehow.
Comment 7 JP Rosevear 2007-09-25 12:11:43 UTC
Thanks, if not, let me know and we'll see what we can do.
Comment 8 Miguel Angel Barajas 2007-10-29 18:36:49 UTC
Hi there, There is a patch submitted to solve this issue?

I can't get the fix.

Thanks
Comment 9 Timo Hoenig 2007-11-07 10:17:31 UTC
No, there was no submission yet.

Please, can please, please, please someone submit the patch? It cost me hours to find out that it wasn't me who blundered but that openSUSE is buggy here. It is so _unnecessary_.
Comment 12 Timo Hoenig 2008-02-15 10:06:06 UTC
Christian, the patches do not apply any longer and I am no gnome-screensaver developer in first place. Thus this either has to wait until I am finding some time, or someone one of the GNOME team looks into this.

Setting NEEDINFO on the GNOME maintainers if there's someone who has time for this.

Any news on this?

Can anybody please apply the patch, if it hasn't been done, yet so we have a working fingerprint reader in 11.0 final?

The fix.

Here's a fix. Reviews welcome.
Comment 17 Timo Hoenig 2008-05-06 13:45:36 UTC
Submitted a fixed version of g-s to STABLE.

JP, please take care that someone qa's the result. I'm not willing to break something else (e.g. smart-card support or such).

Closing as FIXED.

[ The patch is probably easy to backport to 10.3 if someone is keen to have an online update for that ]
Comment 18 Timo Hoenig 2008-05-06 13:51:31 UTC
Oh, by the way. The dialog now prompts the user to swipe the finger if [s]he has registered a fingerprint.
