Description Jan Ritzerfeld 2007-12-24 13:11:26 UTC
I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad R61 8919-6VG with the iwl4965 driver. If I boot with the the wireless network disabled via the radio killswitch, NetworkManager will spam /var/log/NetworkManager with ten messages per minute. Then, if I enable and disable the network via the killswitch again, the messages stop.

This looks similar to Bug #310509 but the messages are different.

Dec 24 13:37:52 karl syslog-ng[2487]: last message repeated 9 times
Dec 24 13:37:54 karl NetworkManager: <info> Error getting killswitch power: org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.KillSwitch.NotSupported - hal-ipw-killswitch-linux returned 255
Comment 1 Mark Gordon 2007-12-28 20:00:38 UTC
For completeness, could you attach the full /var/log/NetworkManager?

This looks kind of like bug 310509
Comment 4 Jan Ritzerfeld 2008-01-24 17:34:29 UTC
I do not think so. The (error) messages are (totally) different. Here "NotSupported", there "InvalidArgs".
Comment 5 Tambet Ingo 2008-03-04 20:34:43 UTC
It's a driver issue which can be worked around with rmmod/insmod the driver:

Reassigning.

Jan, please try iwlwifi-1.2.24 from my buildservice repo at [1]. Does the issue still show up?

Log with new iwlwifi driver

The log with the new iwlwifi driver installed. From boot up to 18:53.
Comment 9 Jan Ritzerfeld 2008-03-05 19:32:20 UTC
Too bad, there is another problem now:
At 20:08, I tried to switch to wireless LAN by re-enabling it via the radio killswitch and then disconnecting the wired LAN. However, NN or HAL insisted in the killswitch being in its old position, thus overriding my request to enable the wireless network.

Or do I have to install any update package in addition to iwlwifi-kmp-default-1.2.24_2.6.22.17_0.1-26.1 ?

Log of NN after re-enabling wlan0 by killswitch and disconnecting eth0

This log is the continuation of the last one. NN or HAL did not get the killswitch state change. Then I stopped NN.

Jan, would you please open a new bug for the new issue (comment #9+10) and assign it to me? Thanks.

Closing as FIXED.
