This is an upstream bug we may consider as critical for SLED11, as it causes lock-ups with GroupWise and GroupWise message losses:

It seems to happen in evolution groupwise lookup if pidging evolution integration (gevolution) is active.

How to reproduce:

1. Get a message from a new Groupwise contact

Result: Pidgin hangs and does not respond

Does this happen if you turn off the evolution plugin?

Just turned off and let's see.

I provided backtraces to the upstream. It seems, that bugs are on both places: pidgin maybe issue two addressbook queries at once, evolution does not proper locking and second query hangs.

I can provide helgrind (improper locking detection) debug log, but it has >1MB.

Here is a very simple way to reproduce similar (or maybe the same) problem (even with gevolution turned off):

Right click on any GW contact -> Info. Two windows are opened at once. First one succeeds, second one never completes.

It seems, that there are no hangs of pidgin, or at least it does not occur several times daily.

Confirming. After disabling gevolution, pidgin no more hangs.

If it will not be fixed, I propose to not package gevolution.

Sorry for stepping in,

I see the same (or it appears to be the same): my pidgin hangs 'often' when getting / sending messages to GW MSG users.

I don't have a evolution plugin installed though (openSUSE 11.1 Factory). I see THIS report is opened against openSUSE 10.3; worthy to create another report? (as it would be newer pidgin version I assume)

I get this also. Seems to happen when I get a notification from GW 8 - if it happens at the same time I'm sending a message in Pidgin, the Pidgin client hangs. Happens at least once daily.

We disabled gevolution, so this problem does not appear. But the possibly related problem - hanging second GroupWise info window still appears, so I guess, that this one is still valid.

But Gabriel Burt maybe found a fix for that one http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13108. We can test, whether it fixes this one as well.

The version with which you had the bug is now obsolete. I'll close this as NORESPONSE. If you can still reproduce it in current 11.4, please reopen the bug and move it to the appropriate version. Thanks!
