Description Casual J. Programmer 2008-03-14 11:32:17 UTC
On a Sony Vaio PCG-SRX51-P after clean installing from the alpha2 DVD the monitor is set to 800*600 the screen space is only used partially.

After update from factory it does not get better, using an old xorg.conf from a previous installation helps.

Switching to runlevel 3 and running sax2 -r disables the mouse and touchpad completely.

P.S. during boot the screen is also not fully used, only 800*600 of the 1024*768 pixels are used. I.e. there is a black frame of unused pixels around the displayed 800*600 pixels.

* added alps touchpad mapping 0x0002 : 0x0008
* fixed sysp mouse nutshell algorithm
* monitor was not detected via DDC (can't fix this)

That was quick ! :-)

what is DDC ?

and how can I get the full resolution at boot time ? I.e. the terminals running under CTL+ALT+F* also have this reduced display capacity.

Now SAX doesn't detect my Lenovo UltraNav device anymore (which was detected two times, previously, see Bug 373176). Only the Synaptics Touchpad is detected now.
Comment 10 Marcus Schaefer 2008-04-18 08:46:11 UTC
* I don't know anything about a "Lenovo UltraNav device" what is this ?
* this bug was about a not detected synaptics touchpad which is
  detected now

If you don't mind don't mix things while re-open a bug. It's also not
easy to take care for several different things in one report. So a short
status on this one is:

- DDC information comes from the monitor. The monitor doesn't report
  them which could be a problem of the monitor or the BIOS. This is
  something we can't fix

- synaptics touchpad wasn't detected but is now detected, so still fixed

- new issue: Lenovo UltraNav device not detected whatever that thing is
  you should open a new report for it and include the following information:

     init 3
     sax2
     ===> send the file /var/log/SaX.log

thanks

I will close this one as fixed because your synaptics device is
setup correctly now

IBM/Lenovo UltraNav is the name for the combination of both, the traditional TrackPoint coupled with a programmable touchpad.

I just posted my last comment here, because my original Bug 373176 was marked as a duplicate one by you. I'll reopen my original bug for this issue.
