Trying to install from alpha3 DVD ( media test passed ) gets as far as 

probe hard disk controller

there it hangs indefinitely.

Switching to terminal 1 ( CTL+ALT+F1 ) shows:

terminal 3 ( CTL+ALT+F3 ) shows:

.

error 37 couldn't open /var/adm/mount/driverupdate

Disk controller is Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI
