Bugzilla – Bug 382400
NetworkManager no longer work when the laptop lid is closed and reopened
Last modified: 2008-07-02 23:14:41 UTC
I am running openSUSE 10.3 on a Dell D820 laptop. I often move from meeting to meeting and have to close the laptop lid in order to carry the laptop. Once the lid is reopened, NetworkManager shows as disconnected and I cannot see any wireless access points until I reboot. I cannot connect by using the "Connect to other wireless network" option until I reboot.

KDE or Gnome version? Is it possible to see wireless networks by executing command "iwlist scan"?
(In reply to comment #2 from Cyril Hrubis) > KDE or Gnome version? Is it possible to see wireless networks by executing > command "iwlist scan"? gnome.. I'll check on the iwlist scan
Yes, I do see them with iwlist scan.
This is a really big problem in that I have to reboot between meetings because I end up closing my laptop while I walk from one room to another. It's not very rational to require someone to always carry an open laptop from one room or building to another. Can I please get an update on this?
This sounds vaguely like the dbus issue fixed for SP2 and 11.0
(In reply to comment #6 from JP Rosevear) > This sounds vaguely like the dbus issue fixed for SP2 and 11.0 That would be nice if it is fixed for 11.0. I actually have 11.0 on this machine now and was hoping that the issue was fixed, but I cannot test it due to bug 392270. If that one was fixed I could verify whether or not this is fixed in 11.0 and close it if it is fixed.
This is working now in openSUSE 11.0
I should clarify. My statement about bug 392270 is still correct. I can't test this using WPA and WPA2, but I did test it using an open wireless access point and the issue is fixed with openSUSE 11.0. I would consider this bug resolved fixed.
