Bugzilla – Bug 383187
[Fix_is_Ready:11.1]Broken RANDR 1.2 support in krandrtray
Last modified: 2009-03-09 17:18:30 UTC
With krandrtray of KDE4 always clone mode is applied, no matter what I configure. An Apply button is missing as well. A side-by-side configuration by using xrandr --output DVI-I_1/digital --right-of DVI-I_2/digital works fine. # xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 3360 x 1050 DVI-I_1/analog disconnected DVI-I_1/digital connected 1680x1050+0+0 433mm x 271mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ 60.0 59.9 59.9* 1280x1024 59.9 1280x960 59.9 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 60.0 DVI-I_2/analog disconnected DVI-I_2/digital connected 1680x1050+0+0 433mm x 271mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ 59.9 1280x1024 75.0 59.9 1280x960 59.9 1152x864 75.0 74.9 69.8 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0 720x400 70.1 I'll attach a screenshot of krandrtray.

I think this is a major bug (since we have this feature on the Gnome desktop), but I don't think it will block the release ==> S:major, P:3
Any news on this one?
(In reply to comment #0 from Stefan Dirsch) > With krandrtray of KDE4 always clone mode is applied, no matter what I > configure. An Apply button is missing as well. A side-by-side configuration > by using > > xrandr --output DVI-I_1/digital --right-of DVI-I_2/digital > > works fine. Just gave krandrtray on KDE4 a try with Beta4. Still always clone mode is applied. Even worse after running krandrtray using xrandr for configuring a side-by-side desktop is no longer possible. At least there is an apply button now. And the UI looks much better than the last time I tried it.

Please try home:llunak/kdebase4-workspace (based on KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop, i.e. 11.1 basically) if there are still any serious problems affecting the usefulness of the randr12 support tool. Otherwise I'll push the fixes and consider this fixed.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ does not work right now, times out for me. You are not mirrored to ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home%3A/ You buildservice repo looks empty to me. How can I test?
Try now.
Created attachment 259689 [details] screenshot of my setup I have a setup as shown in the attached screenshot. One internal notebook screen (LVDS)and the external screen (TMDS-1) in addition. I hit several problems: #1 After trying to change my resolution on the internal monitor my whole plasma desktop is messed up. widgets changed the screen wallpapers are overlapping and exchanged. Ok probably not your fault but plasma's. #2 right clicking on the icon if the dialog is already open does nothing. Should bring dialog to front or display something. #3 some right click on the icon blanks my monitor for a second #4 clicking on "configure display" blanks it again #5 i disabled my internal monitor and did not find a way to turn it on again xrandr did not show the display being turned on nor the left-of relation I used xrandr --output LVDS --auto; xrandr --output TMDS-1 --left-of LVDS to have two monitors again. #6 i played a little changing the resolution internal and external and suddenly when changing external resolution the internal display switched off. In addition the resolution shown in krandrtray several times did not match the xrandr output nor the actual resolution I really appreciate your work and I am willing to test again at any time, thanks for working on this good two screen support is really missing in KDE. aseigo worked on it last week http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2008/12/tasks-widget-and-multi-screen.html maybe there are some things to backport. Do you want bugreports for these or is my setup not supported at all?
#1 is unrelated to the randr12 tool, please create a new bugreport. The rest looks minor, so I'll submit the fixes now.
Submitted to KDE:KDE4:STABLE and for SLED11 (as these fixes are related to several fate features).
Thanks, Lubos. I'm afraid I can't test this before January 2009. If you can't wait that long, please feel free to close as FIXED. :-)
For me side-by-side setups only work sometimes. In most case the result is a cloned mode. In many cases it's even no longer possible to configure a side-by-side setup with xrandr after running krandrtray. :-( I've tested with radeonhd driver on openSUSE 11.1-x86_64 ("Radeon X1650").
You'll need to provide better steps to reproduce the problem than just 'sometimes', 'many cases' unless all you care about is me saying 'how bad'. It works fine here.
I agree, but unfortunately it is more or less impossible, since the issue cannot be reproduced reliably. The situation has improved a lot since my initial report (it didn't work at all), so I think it's time to close this bugreport as fixed.
