Bugzilla – Bug 386455
Installation does scrambles software selection and not allow deselects
Last modified: 2008-05-19 09:56:05 UTC
This problem has been in 11 since alphas, I just thought it was serious enough that it would have certainly been fixed by now. During install, if you chose to go to software selection to add/remove items, the left side displays 5-7 icons and garbage lines above and below. They appear as wavy lines. You can't select anything at all. If you click on the up/down bar on top, then some icons disappear and some reappear each time you click. Then if you click "details" at the bottom text shows up that allow you to add items. However, if you try to remove items such as game, etc. they deselect and change back to selected immediately. Software selection during install is a complete mess and in fact useless for me. I had to just install with the preselected items. Since it's not fixed by now it may be related to these..? Samsung monitor 1680x1050 or graphics card Nvidia Geoforce 7950GT. This was never an issue prior to 11.0.
Do you have some screenshot on how it looks to you?
I have no idea how to get a screenshot during installation. There is no operating system installed yet. Is there a way to do screen shots during DVD installation?
Just press the [PrintScreen] key. See also http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST#How_do_I_attach_YaST2_screen_shots.3F Make sure to copy it to a safe place before the reboot during installation (network, USB stick) so it doesn't disappear with the installation RAM disk.
Mario, AFAICS this is a duplicate of bug #381970 . Look at the screenshot there (attachment #209344 [details]). Please reopen if this is not a duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 209344 ***
This is a very serious problem that has not changed in beta 3. The installation is useless for me since I cannot control software selection during installation. Here is a more accurate description: 1. During installation I selected Software to allow me to add/remove components. 2. Te Software and System Tasks screen appears, it was empty (see screenshot in attachement). There was nothing that would display or change. 3. I clicked on "Details" which brought up the next screen, again, patterns were all empty. Screen shot attached. 4. I tried to change to "package groups" and then I got 7 icons in the column on the left of the screen. The icons were bunched up and there seemed to be garbage to the right of them, a very tiny squiggly line, about 1/4 inch. I tried screen print at this point and it would do nothing so I can't supply that screen. This is a major problem with the install that prevents the use of 11.0 for me.
Created attachment 216091 [details] screen shots during installation
I also don't see any relation to the bugs marked duplicate above or the screen shot mentioned earlier. Miny Beta 3 install shows nothing or icons with garbage.
I'm having the exact same problem as Mario Guzman described in Comment #5 above: the "Software Selection and System Tasks" screen appear with empty "listboxes". If I click on the "Details..." button, I'm taken to a screen with several listboxes that also appear empty (when I leave the "Filter" dropdown list with the default option selected - "Patterns"). If I'd sent Screenshots, they would be equal to the ones that Mario Guzman has provided. If I change the "Filter" dropdown option from "Patterns" to "Package Groups", then I also get the same symptoms that Mario Guzman has described in the item 4 of his Comment #5. I can provide a screenshot for this "Package Groups" results if you think that is helpful. I'm installing openSUSE 11 Beta 3 in a Virtualbox 1.6.0 Virtual Machine (Host computer is running Windows XP Professional). In case it is relevant: in the "Desktop Selection" step, I had selected "Other" -> "Minimal Server Selection (Text Mode)".
