Bugzilla – Bug 391223
How can I safely remove USB mass storage?
Last modified: 2008-07-18 13:36:08 UTC
I dont't see an option how to safely remove USB mass storage from the system. It's not shown in My computer = Konqueror sysinfo:/ .
Actually I don't see an option how to eject a media from DVD drive. It is also not shown in "My Computer".
even worse: the only way there seems to be is from dolphin (started from the plasma applet) - which only says "device is busy", which is clear as dolphin itself opened a shell in that directory ;(
is there a problem with just using "unmount" in the solid device dialog (panel, the computer icon left beside the clock) ? otherwise I don't see why this is critical the unmount options in kio sysinfo:/ have not been ported yet. its not a lot of work though (1-2 hours)
Do you mean the New device Notifier? Well, no. I tried left click, right click and I did not see any dialogue box, window, option, button or anything else where I can click to umount the device. Am I missing something? Btw. Pressing eject button on DVD drive do not open dialogue that device is bussy (KDE3 behavior), nor opens the tray of drive. Only way I discovered is exec eject as root.

this is really an ugly one, even though I can see it's not an easy fix. I really would like to see this fixed if any possible. Otherwise we need to get an early online update.
Re comment #2, cannot reproduce this: I can safely unmount from the sidebar in Dolphin/any file dialog even if showing the mounted dir currently. Re comment #4, the part with the device notifier has not been backported by us (yet). It was implemented post KDE 4.0 release, see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158936
Submitted new kdebase4-workspace package with backported unmounting within device notifier (don't blame me for two new error strings ;-).
