Bugzilla – Bug 392998
vmware: Unable to resize screen to other than 800x600
Last modified: 2008-05-22 00:08:00 UTC
Created attachment 217156 [details] Screenshot of screen after resizing (to 1280x800) This bug is the same as Bug # 389070 previously reported. Running OpenSUSE 11.0 Beta 3 on VMware (Server 1.04). VMware tools installed In SAX2, change Screen to: LCD 1400x1050 @ 60Hz (native for the machine it is on) (Have tried other variations on this theme with the same results) Set resolution to anything other than 800x600 (eg 1280x800). Run test. Works fine. Restart X Splash / login screens resize to new resolution, but after login the screen is back to 800x600. The generated xorg.conf does not contain any modelines (same as in previous bug report). Can use KRandRtray to resize the screen, but get the same issue as bug #391800. ie background image does not resize and task bar does not move to the new bottom of the screen. (See attached file for a screenshot) Tried using an xorg.conf from a SUSE 10.3 installation running on the same VMware server. Same result. This xorg.conf DOES contain modelines

afaik we intentionally don't create any modelines for the vmware driver as they were ignored anyway. Stefan ?
Sorry, I didn't read the initial comment carefully, which says that modelines do not help. David, could you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of 'xrandr'? Thanks.

The xrandr output looks a bit strange, i.e. I don't believe you can switch to a resolution higher than 1280x800, although the output claims this would be possible. Apart from this the issue doesn't look like a X.Org/driver problem at all. It's just a duplicate of Bug #391800. You can verify this by simply chosing another desktop like Gnome, KDE3, xfce or failsafe for your Xsession. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 391800 ***
