Bugzilla – Bug 393046
SW Manager tries to load on-line repositories although computer is off-line or in off-line mode
Last modified: 2008-10-08 10:50:11 UTC
It would be fine automatically disable all on-line repositories if computer is off-line or in off-line mode. I hate Error prompts like http://www.abclinuxu.cz/images/screenshots/5/3/102535-store-for-snapshots-18586.png or http://www.abclinuxu.cz/images/screenshots/5/3/102535-store-for-snapshots-18589.png
Marking as enhancement for 11.1.

I was thinking about this the other day as it is definitely a real pain when you don't have a net connection at that minute. Try taking opensuse into a corporate where the MS proxy doesn't let your direct network traffic through, it's just timeout after timeout, worse than when there is no network as there is a network but it treats it like opensuse repositories are down which takes so long you don't even bother going into the software selection. Perhaps when this is enhanced we could find a detection method that will work for when the site is down or inaccessible too? Maybe there needs to be a general 'cancel all online repositories' option when running software updates?
The refresh problem has been fixed - yast should not autorefresh when there is no network. I think the problem in comment #7 cannot be solved properly. You cannot detect that a firewall blocks HTTP/FTP connections without making a connection which will time out. So there will be always at least one time out. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 401966 ***
