Description Bart Whiteley 2008-06-05 01:53:59 UTC
I run konsole on gnome. When I first log in and type in a konsole, the konsole bell works (for example, trying to backspace past the prompt, or hitting tab-tab). However, errors soon pop up that say:

The audio playback device HDA Iintel (AD198x Analog) does not work.
   Falling back to Esound (ESD).

Sometimes these errors won't go away without logging out. Eventually sound stops working in konsole. The time when sound stops working in konsole often coincides with some other app starting that has sound (banshee, mplayer).

/var/log/messages has a few things:

Jun 4 19:30:22 lap pulseaudio[8412]: pid.c: Daemon already running.

I forgot to mention, the error that pops up says "phonon" at the top.
Comment 2 Rodrigo Moya 2008-06-09 11:40:14 UTC
Is this under GNOME or KDE ?
Comment 3 Vincent Untz 2008-06-09 11:59:07 UTC
(In reply to comment #2 from Rodrigo Moya)
> Is this under GNOME or KDE ?

Bart mentioned "I run konsole on gnome" in the first comment.

I'll install konsole and try to reproduce.
Comment 4 Rodrigo Moya 2008-06-09 15:10:08 UTC
Oh, sorry, didn't see the 'on gnome' part. Running konsole on gnome here indeed shows those errors, although they disappeared too quickly (notification balloons) so couldn't read them all.

Investigating...
Comment 5 Rodrigo Moya 2008-06-09 15:19:30 UTC
How do you enable the beep sounds in konsole ?
Comment 6 Bart Whiteley 2008-06-09 15:36:58 UTC
Konsole beeps were enabled by default for me. Note, I'm using kde4-konsole.
Comment 8 Takashi Iwai 2009-02-18 08:57:08 UTC
What is the status of this bug on 11.1?
Comment 9 Bart Whiteley 2009-02-18 17:02:45 UTC
I don't know. Due to various other bugs in kde4-konsole, I went back to konsole from kdebase3.
Comment 11 Vincent Untz 2009-02-23 03:01:36 UTC
Bart: okay, we'll close the bug. If/when you switch back to kde4-konsole, please reopen if this still happens (but it's believed to be fixed now).
