Description Megaq Lex 2008-06-06 17:58:54 UTC
The machine randomly freezes using the latest nvidia drivers. Under KDE or Gnome.

Nvidia Driver:
Version: 173.14.05
Operating System: Linux x86
Release Date: May 28, 2008

I will try the nv driver instead.
Comment 1 Megaq Lex 2008-06-06 18:18:53 UTC
Tried the nv driver and it froze on login while loading the startup programs.. I am in IceWM right now .. I think it might be evolution or kerry in the startup that is freezing the system.. I will work on icewm for a while to see if it freezing if not its either the opensuse updater, pidgin, kerry or evolution freezing the system.

We do not track any NVIDIA driver bugs filed against openSUSE.

Please save /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log right after nv driver freeze and attach them. For this reboot into runlevel 3 to make sure the Xserver does not overwrite the logfile.

There's nothing suspicious in the config-/logfile. Could you please add

  Option "noaccel"

to Section "Device" of your xorg.conf to rule out an acceleration bug in the
nv driver. If this still doesn't help, please switch to fbdev driver, to see
if this helps.

Are you using ReiserFS? If so, this is likely a dupe of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=389656
Comment 7 Megaq Lex 2008-06-09 19:43:16 UTC
