On a KDE4 installation pon a Thinkpad X61, the backlight does not
switch off when KDE blanks the screen.

I am unsure who is responsible, so I try X.org first ;)

Does changing the backlight by laptop hardware hotkey work? Or at least with xbacklight? If it does I would like to blame KDE. ;-)
Comment 3 Marcus Meissner 2008-06-19 12:33:39 UTC
per hotkey - no

per xbacklight - yes
per unplugging powercable dimming (powersave) - yes
Comment 4 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-19 12:41:42 UTC
Ok. Let's investigate this by our KDE team now. Since it's a laptop maybe you can easily show this issue to them.
Comment 5 Marcus Meissner 2008-06-19 12:43:32 UTC
i have the laptop in the office for testing purposes.
Comment 6 Dirk Mueller 2008-06-19 13:04:20 UTC
do you run kpowersave?
Comment 7 Dirk Mueller 2008-06-19 14:27:48 UTC
happens even without kpowersave
Comment 8 Marcus Meissner 2008-06-20 08:44:15 UTC
wasting power on screenblank in all KDE4 installs is at least major
Comment 9 Dirk Mueller 2008-06-23 08:36:24 UTC
fixed with the package in STABLE:Desktop, right?
Comment 10 Marcus Meissner 2008-06-23 08:45:18 UTC
just tested with kdebas4-workspace, yes, it now switches off the backlight
Comment 11 Dirk Mueller 2008-06-23 16:14:42 UTC
will submit as part of an online update

Comment 14 Jörg Hermsdorf 2008-07-26 16:23:01 UTC
Was this only fixed for KDE 4.0? I'm using 4.1 from the KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop repository and it's not yet fixed on my ThinkPad T60p.
Comment 15 Jörg Hermsdorf 2008-10-14 20:51:01 UTC
Ping!
My backlight still does not switch off on openSUSE 11.1 Beta2 using KDE 4.1.2. My Notebook: ThinkPad T60p.
Comment 16 Jörg Hermsdorf 2008-10-26 14:21:46 UTC
This bug is still present on openSUSE 11.1 Beta3 - KDE 4.1.2
