Bugzilla – Bug 402480
printer installation failed hp psc 5280
Last modified: 2008-08-12 08:41:25 UTC
On an fresh 11.0, I connected the USP cable, to my all-in-one device. Two dialogs popped up, one for installing scanner function, one for installing printer function. I ran the scanner installation succesfully. Afterwards the printer dialog was also gone. Disconnect and reconnect does not bring it up again. /etc/printcap is still empty. Calling Yast for a manual install, it started by downloading many components. Are the printer coponents missing in 11.0 ?
yast fails with An error occurred while saving queue photosmartc5200serie. Try selecting the printer model again.
Please attach y2logs. If you are in doubt follow: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST Thanks!

I found the problem: /usr/share/cups/model/HP/HP-PhotoSmart_C5200-hpijs.ppd.gz was missing. I copied that over from my 10.3 partition and yast succeeded. The hplip package is missing. 'Try selecting the printer model again' is a misleading error message. There was nothing wrong with the model selection.

I am not sure, this is really a duplicate of 387226. My proposed fix is: - have yast reach out and install hplip when it detects an HP-printer. or - include hplip in default pattern. One additional note: - With a fresh installation of 11.0 I no longer get an popups when connecting the printer cable.
