Description Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 06:09:32 UTC
A few times after the system has boot or the screensaver activates itself, there was no chance to use the keyboard anymore.

No entries were made in the relevant logfiles.

kind regards

Michael
Comment 1 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-24 06:56:07 UTC
but the screensaver keeps running?
Comment 2 Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 08:07:06 UTC
the whole system freezes. the only thing left is the login-window. the only way to solve the problem is to shut the system the hard way down
Comment 3 Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 08:11:54 UTC
it seems there is a problem with usb-devives generally. another funny thing is the fact that if i plug in an usb-keyboard with an integrated usb-hub (made by SUN) the soundcard stops working
Comment 4 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-24 08:28:58 UTC
Thorsten has the same issue
Comment 5 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-24 08:29:52 UTC
Please attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log. If you can log in remotely, e.g. with ssh, please run 'chroot 1' when the issue happens. Then check if the keyboard still works on the Linux console. I would like to figure out if it's an X keyboard or general keyboard issue.

> Thorsten has the same issue

I have the issue with all GL applications (independent of if this is a GL screensaver, or another GL application like googleearth.
Comment 7 Thorsten Kukuk 2008-06-24 08:32:48 UTC
Additional: Only the keyboard and mouse is "dead" (or better, very, very slow, sometimes it works). I can login without problems via ssh and kill the application, after this everything works again as usual.

For Thorsten (Matrox G450) this looks like a mga DRI driver issue. Thorsten, please add

  Disable "dri"

to Section "Modules" of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to switch back to software rendering. Restart your Xserver/Xsession. Background: DRI is the default since openSUSE 11.0, so this is the reason, why it didn't happen before.

I'm not sure about Michael (Intel 965GM). Michael, please try the same, so I can see whether it's also a DRI driver ("i965") issue.
Comment 14 Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 09:25:38 UTC
OK i will try it... hopefully back in a few minutes... :D
Comment 15 Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 09:35:47 UTC
back again... it seems to work. changed the xorg.conf, restarted xserver, tried different screensavers... everything seems to work properly
Comment 16 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-24 10:11:19 UTC
Ok. So both DRI drivers are broken. Bad. I think we can consider removing DRI support for Matrox, but for Intel this is not really an option.
Comment 17 Michael Schönau 2008-06-24 10:30:35 UTC
so what would you recommend? downgrade to 10.3 ;)

by the way thanks for your help
Comment 18 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-24 10:54:27 UTC
For now I suggest to disable DRI.
Comment 19 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-24 17:45:46 UTC
Michael, with which desktop and screensaver(s) can I reproduce this?

Comment 21 Stefan Dirsch 2008-06-24 18:53:15 UTC
I forgot to mention that I will disable DRI support for Matrox cards for the next openSUSE release.
Comment 22 Michael Schönau 2008-06-25 06:08:02 UTC
Good Morning!

Try to reproduce it with KDE 3.5.9 - "Release: 49.1" and the "Flip Text" Screensaver located in the open GL-Screensaver Section.

Thank you so far

Michael
