Bugzilla – Bug 407795
Complete Failure of KDE4 AND KDE3 Installation - due unable to determine Monitor
Last modified: 2008-07-19 01:47:59 UTC
The installation of KDE4 AND KDE3 in V11.0 failed completely due unable to detect monitor and start X-windows session. Error response on Manual Configuration of End Stage Hardware Installation - 'Monitor is not reporting X - Y Axis'. Error message on restart with 'failsafe' - ........ manually configure Display Y/N user input Y > "root password requested" given nil response. Manually enter Yast>Hardware>Graphics Card - NO response, NO flicker, Nothing!! Monitor appeared to be configured as 800/400 - Graphics unacceptable in safe mode and GUI completely unstable. This was NOT an issue in 10.3 KDE3 ? Formatting reverting to 10.3 but /var/log directory and files saved and is available for ANY logs you specifically will require - Please advise specific log files as some very large even after compression.
Only /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old might be interesting here. Please _attach_ them seperately in plain/text format.

Both logfiles are for a fbdev configuration. The second one is likely for a failsafe boot (acpi=off), so you see all these ACPI warnings. There's nothing special in there. Graphics hardware is: 1) NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405 (10de:03d1) 2) ATI Radeon VE (1002:5159) So you likely run into the SaX2 Dualcard configuration issue (fixed for openSUSE 11.1), which can be workarounded by runnings 'sax2 -r -c 0' or 'sax2 -r -c 1' (depends on which one is the primary VGA card) after installation. Since you gave up before we could investigate this issue, I need to assume this is a duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 381644 ***
