Description Tim Fechtner 2008-08-24 08:18:38 UTC
I'm using openSUSE updater for updates and upgrades.

One time, the updater showed some updates and many upgrades. When I choosed to install all of them, an error message "no reply from daemon" was displayed (see snapshot.png). However it was possible to install only the updates, but the installation of upgrades always stopped with the above error message.

Finally I've installed the upgrades with "yast/software/software installation" - which requiered a user interaction to decide to not upgrade kde4-webkitpart (because konqueror depends on a special version of kde4-webkitpart).

If the problem is that the openSUSE updater can't handle user interaction (what is what I asume that is causing this problem?), there should be a better error message. Something like "openSUSE updater can't resolve all dependencies. Please use YaST to upgrade."

Now I've seen the same error message of opensuse-updater another time. But when I did the upgrade with YaST, there was no user interaction requiered. So this doesn't seem to be the problem, but maybe a sort of general connection problem with opensuse-updater and the libraries???

However, as I see this message 1 or 2 times each week and update is an important feature (and this has nothing to do with unresolved dependencies), I increse Severity/Priority.
