Description Parameshwara Bhat 2008-08-31 01:18:33 UTC
I add a panel,I add widgets it it,place them where I want, the next time I login, some of them are gone or they are all misplaced.

I add a panel. It must go to the top.No choice for me there. But the next time I login,it will come to bottom and sits on the other panel.

I deleted the whole .kde4 folder from my user account and re-logged in so that I get a fresh new interface.I got a default panel, widgets on it,and folderview on desktop.Till two logins,it was all there. After a third login, the panel was all a mess, folderview was gone.

This problem is especially severe with systray.I removed everything on desktop, kept just the clock and systray(without panel). The next time I login, system tray can be seen there as a small rectangle, without anything in it.

I understand it is still under development, but it does not seem to be moving to stability, rather more and more mess. When I first installed kde4 in June,at least the panel and desktop icons were stable and fixed. Now everything in flux.Applications themselves working fine.

You are right. One update brought me this, another update rectified it.

Now,yet two updates have left my KDE4.1.1 in an unworkable state. On Login, just a chequered screen of black and white and many warnings on gstreamer and No Panel,No Desktop,No widgetsAlt+F2 works, but no command or even console can be opened from it.

Sending this from KDE3.

Not unhappy to be part of the great experiment, though.

Did you read/follow http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2008-09/msg00052.html ?

Thank You.Adding the repository gave back my KDE4.

But,suddenly the BUG also reappeared.I deleted .kde4,re-logged in.I had new kde4 desktop. Now,I logged out and logged in again. The panel lost kick-off widget, folderview widget I had moved to the right had come back to left.I am listing my 'plasma' versions below.

pbhat@nishanth:~> rpm -qa|grep plasma
kde4-plasma-addons-4.1.1-26.27
plasma-theme-aya-4.1.1-26.27
libplasma1-4.0.4-24.80
pbhat@nishanth:~>

You should be able to reproduce it with the same packages or KDE4 version.Attaching screenshot

Comment 10 Parameshwara Bhat 2008-09-21 09:08:00 UTC
I had an update yesterday night.Partially the bug seems to have gone again.

Carlos, you are right in that the kick-off menu applet itself is not disappearing. But the applets on the Desktop still do not remember their position.
I still cannot persuade myself to delete the panel and put it's applets in various places over the desktop.I am scared of the instability again,by my experience the last time I did that. The tray and the new device applet particularly behave weird on plain Desktop.

Can you attach ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc from before and after the applets moved autonomously?

Plasma applets after login

dropping of kicker menu behaviour changes between updates. After an update it could be stable. After next update,it is dropping again.
I had an update yesterday,I see lot of changes in the panel settings. But the kicker menu is getting forgotten.
But applets on desktop have been restoring to a default position through all updates last two months.

Upstream bug is fixed, we should backport the fix for 11.2 (and maybe 11.1) if we haven't already.

This works in 11.2 so comment 16 must be correct. Marking as resolved.
