Add kernel module for WiFi on MSI Wind
Last modified: 2008-12-19 16:19:39 UTC
MSI Wind netbooks have WiFi controller Realtek 8187se and vanila kernel dont have module for se version of 8187, but module for 2.6.27 kernel exist under GPL here: http://code.google.com/p/msi-wind-linux/ Any chance to get wifi on this popular netbook out of the box?
yes please! i also have a msi wind and i think i will try opensuse on that soon.
Hm, I thought this was added already for 11.1, can you please provide the output of 'lspci -v' as an attachment to this bug so that I can try to verify this?
Created attachment 248227 [details] lspci -v lspci -v made on MSI Wind U90x under KDE4 LiveCD 11.1 Beta3 rtl8187.ko inxluded in 2.6.27 kernel supports only 8187 and 8187b adapters, but not 8187se
Please, I think that with the success of this notebooks to have this driver is a MUST. (specially since some of them are shipped with SLED). My Ahtec LUG (MSI Wind clone), have the same problem.
I'm not disagreeing with you, it's in my queue...
+ 1 for me
Now added, will be in the next kernel update.
Hello, Just downloaded and installed opensuse 11.1 (i586 DVD version) Released yesterday but the wifi still not working :(. I'm not sure If I have to wait till a kernel update for 11.1 or if is something wrong
Yes, sorry, it missed the DVD 11.1 kernel release, but will be in the next update. If you don't want to wait for that (don't know when it will be, probably a few weeks at the earliest), you can install it from the kernel-of-the-day, which can be found at: http://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/HEAD/
