sory for last two attachments they belongs to another bug :)
The behaviour of the yast2-x11 changed a little for beta5. It will now accept the resolution the user selected even if it wasn't detected (it will set the PreferredMode just as SaX does). Could you please retry with beta5 and attatch the logs[1] again, that would be great. And as you are on it, please attach the output of "hwinfo --monitor" while you are in runlevel 3. Then we could add this display to our monitor database. [1] Please attach YaST logs and the following files /var/log/SaX.log /etc/X11/xorg.conf /var/log/Xorg* For details see: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST
I can see in SaX.log that the monitor could not be detected. This is the reason, why the default resolution has been set to 800x600 (kernel framebuffer resolution chosen during installation). Of course running SaX2 and selecting the right LCD monitor afterwards corrects this issue. There's nothing wrong in behaviour of sax2/yast2-x11. This is unrelated to the changes in Beta5 for yast2-x11 Jens Daniel mentioned before. Closing as INVALID.
stefan: i reopen this bug because in beta5 is this issue still present and e.g. in kubuntu i have no similar problem during installation daniel: is it possible to add display to our monitor database (not sure what it means)? i will attach desired logs thanks
Created attachment 253902 [details] sax xorg and hwinfo --monitor logs from beta5
Created attachment 253903 [details] y2logs from beta5
Created attachment 253912 [details] shrinked screen i also add screenshot of display during installation (it's from beta4 but it's the same in beta5), screen is "shrinked"
Michael, no monitor detected means that DDC probing for any monitor fails, so adding the monitor to the database won't help at all for automatic configuration. kubuntu uses a different X.Org configuration. Probably no xorg.conf at all. The driver has other means to detect monitor than SaX2/hwinfo has. So this is a duplicate of Bug #440973. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 440973 ***
