Bugzilla – Bug 442810
[Virtualization:VirtualBox]
Last modified: 2008-11-25 20:25:32 UTC
After upgrading to latest build of VirtualBox (2.0.4-4.1) I can no longer start it (only as root). The error thrown by VirtualBox is as follows: VirtualBox: Error -10 in SUPR3HardenedMain! VirtualBox: Effective UID is not root (euid=1000 egid=100 uid=1000 gid=100) VirtualBox: Tip! It may help to reinstall VirtualBox. It worked well until the latest update from Virtualization:VirtualBox repository.
An updated package arrived, but when I as a regular user try to start it I now get: user@box:~> VirtualBox /usr/bin/VirtualBox: line 1: /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox: Permission denied
Well, unfortunately, the update was to the i586 packs and not x86_64
x86_64 update packages work great. Thanks for the rapid response.
Well as I opened this for i386 (ok, i586), and that package is still broken.
Ok, there was apparently something changed in this package (sigh) and the fix is to add the users to the group "vboxusers"....
