Bugzilla – Bug 461627
Octave does not work at all
Last modified: 2008-12-22 22:01:47 UTC
Octave does not work under 11.1. It did work under 11.0 and stopped working after the update to 11.1. I reinstalled 11.1 from scratch (all new), including change of the disk partitions. Octave does not work at all. The installation went well and without error message. I installed the complete octave selection, including dev-files. The files are there, but no icon, no link on the start menue. clicking on octave under /usr/bin does not help either.
Hi Karl, I just checked with my system: please try as follows: Alt-F2 - xterm call "octave" from within this xterm by tyoing octave at the prompt for me it works perfectly with 11.1. However, you have to make sure that 1.) gnuplot is installed, 2.) even if you use an icon, you have to start octave within a terminal (like xterm as depicted above), so the icon must be backed up with the appropriate configuration. Maybe there is a missing configuration in the kde-menu, but I would not see this as a bug as long as octave is not disfunctional if you start it from within a terminal. Come back to me if you need further assistance, I think this is less an openSUSE bug then poor information on how to get octave into operation as you'd expect it to. Dieter Jurzitza
