Brasero fails to burn any media

hdparm -i /dev/cdrom /dev/cdrom: Model=HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T40N , FwRev=JQ01 , SerialNo=K0182MK4525 Config={ Fixed Removeable DTR<=5Mbs DTR>10Mbs nonMagnetic } RawCHS=0/0/0, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=0 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=0 (maybe): CurCHS=0/0/0, CurSects=0, LBA=yes, LBAsects=0 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120} PIO modes: pio0 pio3 pio4 DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2 AdvancedPM=no Drive conforms to: Unspecified: ATA/ATAPI-4,5,6,7 * signifies the current active mode GNOME recognizes the media and recommends to burn, but both Brasero and gnome's image burner do not allow to burn on cd or dvd (well everything).
I have this problem too. On HP Compaq nx9105, I insert a blank DVD-R or CD-R and GNOME recognizes it. I select files in Brasero, click "Burn", it hangs for a minute, then dissappears. dmesg command gives: end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 The same goes for Nautilus CD burn mode. Brasero in OpenSUSE 11.0 worked fine. My smolt profile: http://www.smolts.org/show?uuid=pub_b31481bf-8f95-42d2-99c7-1555131b86cc
To philipp: Are you experiencing bug #461598 ? Larry that seems a problem with the media, can you also attach a brasero -g log ? Also try to burn the image using the burning tools (wodim/cdrdao).
There's a huge discussion of this problem in bug #408252. I think we should mark this bug as duplicate.
